A PARALLEL CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY
During his presidential campaign current President Juan Carlos Varela proposed convening a parallel constituent, but he has not done so. The group supporting the candidate to the Presidency of the Bar Association (CNA) Edna Ramos requested that a constituent assembly be convened by the citizens.
The lawyers took the first step yesterday. They requested the Electoral Court to certify if the regulations to adopt a new constitution through a constituent assembly conveyed by the citizens have been issued. The Electoral Court has thirty days to respond to their request. If the Electoral Court has already issued the regulations, the lawyers hope that they will be given certified copies to proceed.
